Humayun Ahmed And The Things You Don’t Need To Know
Humayun Ahmed And The Things You Don’t Need To Know
Samsur
Rahman is one of the finest and fascinating writers that I have ever seen in my
life. Are you a bit surprised that I am talking about Samsur Rahman in an
article with the title Humayun Ahmed in it? If I say Humayun Ahmed was named Samsur
Rahman for 6 years? Yes, it's true. Humayun Ahmed’s name was initially Samsur
Rahman for the first 6 years. Suddenly his father decided to change his name to
Humayun Ahmed. Surprisingly all his siblings has gone through the same thing.
Humayun Ahmed’s childhood life is full of interesting stories.
Humayun Ahmed and His Parents
Humayun Ahmed was a good guy reading
books always?
Humayun
Ahmed is now one of the finest writers in modern Bangla literature. But how was
he when he was a kid? Did he used to read books all day all this time? No, it
was completely different. He used to roam around all the time. Most of the time
he was not seen in the house. He was a mischievous kid. On top of that, his
father told everyone not to bother children about their studies and let them
enjoy themselves. So, our beloved Humayun Ahmed started roaming with and
without companions. Sometimes he used to get lost so he had to ask directions
from others. He had only one restriction and that is to be present during the
lunch hours. It’s a wonder right how this wonder kid turned out to be a
wonderful writer.
Humayun Ahmed and His School Life
Humayun Ahmed and Education
As far as you
have seen Humayun Ahmed was not into studies that much. But a turn came in his
educational life when he was about to sit for the examinations of class 3 final
exam. Suddenly Shankar his only best
friend’s mom announced that she would buy Shankar a football if Shankar passed
the final exam. These two friends started to plan how to prepare Shankar for
the final exams. So our beloved writer Humayun Ahmed took the responsibility to
tutor Shankar. Now to tutor Shankar, Humayun Ahmed had to study first. Finally,
they sat for the exam and the day of the result came. Unfortunately, Shankar
did not pass but Humayun Ahmed, making everyone astonished came first. But
don’t feel sad because they got the football as Shankar was promoted on special
basis. You might think this was the first time people got a glance of Humayun Ahmed's
talent. But let me tell you he was very brilliant from an early age. One time, his father told his kids that if they could memorize and recite any poem from
“Shonchoyita”(By Rabindranath Tagore), he would offer them some prize
money. And Humayun Ahmed managed to
recite an entire poem named “Ebar Ferao More” and got the prize money(His first
income from literary field according to Humayun Ahmed).
Some Stories In The End
Humayun
Ahmed has many interesting stories throughout his life that are difficult to
cover in one blog. But at the end of the blog, I will share two of his stories
that remained in him for a very long time.
One
His uncle
and mom used an inhuman way of punishing him. He was too out of control that is
true but this method was too much illiberal. They used to hold him upside down
over a Well. You can see the reflection of this fear in some of his writings.
But I won't be giving spoilers.
Another
Before
getting admitted to school he used to sneak out during the noon time. At that
time there was an icecream seller who would offer him free ice cream and stare
at him with a delightful look.
I tried to
reflect on those parts of his childhood that are statistically not represented
but yet very important parts of one’s life. Humayun Ahmed reflected most of his
life stories in his writings. He tried to write all the things that happened in
his life in various ways. He had a great sense of emotion too. So when you read
a book of a writer whose life was like most of our life you start to feel the
emotion of that article. And of course, we can not deny his brilliant mind.
