Parent : Why you playing the same thing?
Kid: It ain't the same.
Has this been the most common arguement in every gamer's house? Yes. But the question remains, who has the misconception and who is right?

First, we have to put light to how multiplayer games work and why the developers implement certain mechanics to a game..
- Optimization : Online games need to be able to run on most high-end to low-end devices. That would ensure a higher player base for the game and thus ensure a profitable market for the developers to continue working on the game.
- Balanced Playing field : During an online match, when players are playing against other humans, each in-game event they encounter are unique because each of those encounters are the results of unpredictable human decision-making. So in order to cope with that, the developers have to put the players into a very limited set of game mechanics and limited size of playing zone for maximum optimization and consistent performance while conducting each rounds of a game. This would make the game run stable and give an optimized experience to the players.
So in from a 3rd perspective, it would make the game seem like it's a repetition of the same things over and over again. But what the player is facing is, the outcomes of what multiple other players have decided to do from their perspectives of each games. For instance, take a look at the following videos.
And
These videos are from the same game, same map, same objective, kill others and win the objective. Now if you look at it from the player's perspective, you can clearly see that even though the objective remains the same, the situations the player has to go through are totally unique from each other.
This is the essence of online player vs player games. The same limitations and rules apply to basically everyone. But how you manipulate the rules, is up to your own creativity. So in the end, though the game might look like doing the same thing over and over, it usually isn't.
