Dreams & Dilemma of Higher Education in Bangladesh

Among many of us specially students, a concept has been set in their mind that they have to get enrolled in public universities unless their lives will be ruined. Many of the students become disappointed about their future and some commit suicide due to frustration. After passing HSC exam, around 100K students to get admitted in public universities. The scope of enrollment in public universities is limited and the seats for the students are around 10 thousand. About one-tenth of the students can get chance in public universities. Moreover a critical battle of merit occurs in public university admission test. So, those students who get chance in public universities always show disrespectful behaviour towards those who didn't get chance in public universities that leads them to a great mental damage. Furthermore, many students who are unable to afford the cost of expensive studies fall in great difficulties. As a result, parents fall in great danger to afford their study. Then students become disappointed about their future. One of the most important cause is the propaganda of coaching center. Keeping in mind to make money to make money through admission-coaching they propel the aspiring candidates that public university is the best if anyone fails to get chance in public universities, no one cares him nor even his family. Not only that, they also say students get certificate by money from private universities. Thus students get affected by seriously both mentally and socially that leads them to a huge misery. But the reality is not like that. Yes, public universities are less expensive, has campus facilities and lots of resources. But look at public universities. Political violence, ragging, lack of facilities, weak condition of residential halls, insincerity of teachers & authority. But in private universities, yes the cost is a bit higher but there are no ragging, politics, irresponsibility of teachers, staffs, authorities, satisfactory transport system etc. Now the challenges for public universities are quality of education, environment of education, political invasion and many more. But on the other hand, private universities are committed to develop the sector and ensure that students have access to high-quality education.

Obviously, to get chance in public universities is really hard but nowadays enrollment in private universities is becoming tougher. In recent years, many students are not only being disappointed to get their desired subjects but also not having chance for a seat in private universities. Also the ranks of private universities are improving rapidly. At the ending, it really doesn't matter from where one has graduated which is public or private university. So, in my earnest opinion, the misconception about university admission should be stopped immediately. It is really not good to make controversy between public and private universities. It really varies on person to person that where he will go public or private university but the real thing matters is finally the lesson he learned, the skill he earned and the result he obtained.
